Ancient history indicates that reflexology was originally practised in Egypt, China and India.  Indeed in around 2330 BC the tomb ofAnkhmahor was built in Egypt and a wall painting which can still be seen in the pyramid today is thought to show men practising reflexology on feet.

The scientific basis for reflexology comes from neurological studies that were carried out in the 1890s in London by Sir Henry Head. In 1898 he discovered zones on the skin that linked with parts of the spine and internal organs.

Reflex areas in the feet correspond to all major organs, glands and body parts.  The theory underlying reflexology is that pressure on reflex points stimulates the energy flow along a pathway, clearing congestion and balancing the whole body.  Working on all reflex points in the feet will return the body to homeostasis (a stable equilibrium throughout the body).  Once in this state the body’s immune system will be able to overcome whatever is troubling it. Congestion is reduced in the energy channels thus enabling energy flows to be revitalised once more.
